Anyone there? Video or live tweeting? Would be good to get a sense of how it goes :)

@justacwab ACH is MC...

@justacwab He supports active travel and is fighting to lower pollution. Says we're not in lock down so have time reflect. Asking for a show of hand about where people come from and whether people support the proposals. Not a LD campaign. United community against the proposal.

@justacwab Now Cllr Aldridge. Wants this to be the start of a genuine consultation process LD were very supportive of Sfp e.g. Maybury Rd crossing & Cammo Walk This is farer reaching, should be designed with the community Take a pause and have a consultation to solve the traffic issues

@justacwab Cllr Brown next. Substantial changes despite cllrs & MSPs being in opposition. Not necessarily against the principal but the way it is being done. Bringing up opposition to high streets. Quoting Cllr Arthur... Forcing it through LTN at this stage is ludicrous.

@justacwab Going on to say that it shouldn't be hidden as part of West Edinburgh Link. It's not car drivers vs cyclist. He can't drive & is a cyclist. Not up to politicians to dictate how people live their lives. Cllr Bridgman not here due to isolating.

@justacwab Next up Cllr McInnes. Important to understand the context. I don't recognise what has been said. Going to take you back to the start of this. SFP emerged from scot Gov to allow for temporary measures. CEC won Β£5m as they recognised the ambition & quality.

@justacwab Themes. Safe passage for kids going to school. Allowing exercise Segregated routes to hospitals Some people think we are moving past the point of crisis, but we are in fear of a return. We don't want it to return. Need space to ensure it doesn't spread here.

@justacwab Initially allowed for more people to get around safely. People are beginning to get back work but people still need safe passage. CEC team working at enormous pace. (Heckling starting...) We live is a representative democracy... (laughter...) We have changed our committees

@justacwab Report came to the new committee and 4 out of 5 parties agreed to the faster decision making and less consultation to make these types of changes. (Heckling) Let me finish and I will listen to your questions. CeC does more consultation than any other But we can't do normal way

@justacwab We have put out proposals and allowed a short window involving community councils. We have followed this agreed approach. A lot of schemes have been changed to allow us to achieve what we want. We aren't able to do our normal consultation as that would take months.

@justacwab Scot Gov policy was that we didn't need to consult. We are doing more than that. We have a democratic agreement that we need to follow. We can't go back and change it within 6 months. (Jeers & shouting). I'm talking about the process. The LTN is a done deal.

@justacwab The process is different to outcome. We are still are in danger of Covid. I will write people responding to the points made. There is a different between a temporary scheme and a permanent one. Huge consultation & support for WEL. If we do this we would monitor all streets.

@justacwab Change is difficult for an area. (Heckling) I've turned up. I'm here to listen. Lots of information- I'll get to the meat of the plans. We are testing it. We will monitor. We are looking at changes. We are trying very hard to deliver a LTN which in every area has opposition

@justacwab But turned out to be well received. Waltham forest. Less traffic Safer streets. Rat Running (huge boos). The tenor of this meeting is not right. LTN deliver less traffic and better quality of life time and time again. Waltham forest had a massive reduction in traffic etc.

@justacwab Healthier populations. There was strong opposition there but 6 months later it was well received. The form of the LTN is based on the info from the WEL work. Solid information. Diff between temp and permanent measure. I'm.gojng to wrap up now (cheers). I want to listen.

@justacwab Now Dave & Steve from the community campaign. Thanks for Lesley here and the support from the community. 2600 petition from local area. We want this to stop. Let's pick up on using the emergency covid policies. WeL predates that. It didn't mention LTN or closing roads.

@justacwab Emergency measures can only be changed if there is a danger to health. Is the situation dangerous. WHO says streets aren't dangerous. You're using emergency temporary measures to force this on us.

@justacwab We are the residents. We don't have rat running we have safe streets. We don't want it closed off. I want to keep what we have. An already low traffic neglighboirhood. We don't want to be the poster area for the council. It's already safe. Now it is the public's turn.

@justacwab How much time have you spent on Craigs road. It only busy at the after school rush and even then it isnt busy. LM: whenever we change streets it is problem with perception. I have had an increasing mail bag of people saying they are supporting it. Your neighboirs.

@justacwab I've had 4 people saying they are scared of coming to share their view. (Shouts of FOUR). I have to represent everyone. Looking at it for short period only tells you for that period. Handing over to technical colleague. Please listen to him.

@justacwab We have visited Craig's road many times. We received feedback on WEL that the proposals didn't go far enough. So we looked at LTN We did traffic surveys. Craig's rd, level & speed of traffic meant York get mor cycling you either needed segregated lanes or less traffic.

@justacwab Next Q: Have you a figure for a suburban street should have in a LTN. Ans: I can reel them of my head but they are on the council website Q: I apologise for calling you a liar. Will you apologise for your tweet? There is a lot of merit in a LTN but not due to Covid (big cheer)

@justacwab LM: There are strong views here. We are trying to bring in these temporary measure. I haven't misrepresented on my tweet. Such vitriol. I wanted to play my part in inviting people to it.

@justacwab Q: I'm a ECR resident. We didn't want the Cammo development. Our rights & access are being taken away to facilitate these houses You refer to Scot Gov policy "Streets should be connected to network, for even spread across a neighboured" You're making us go onto polluted SJR & GR

@justacwab Q: I've lived here 40 years and I've never turned right. You are making it dangerous. There will be a serious accident. Q: As local CoS minister representing 400 members. None of them had the original consultation. As a church we are now cut off from our community.

@justacwab We don't like it. The western expansion will change the buses - will you ask us our opinion? LM: when you talk about cutoff. You are talking about 1 mode of transport. We are hearing peoples latent demand to access the city by πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈπŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ But they can't.

@justacwab Referencing Bike Buses and that they can't use Craigs Road. LM: Do you not want a safer street with less traffic. (We already have it). We have 40% that don't have access to cars, they want to get around. (Go on the pavement)

@justacwab Answer to tech q on street guidance policy. Fundamental answer is street guidance has an hierarchy with walking & cycling at the top. The connectivity point you raised is to do with πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈπŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ. When you design streets now you do it differently. Craigs road has low frontage = speed

@justacwab Q: Woukd planning allow a development with only 1 exit? A: I'm not a planner. I recognise that turning right. We're not saying we have everything right.

@justacwab Q: I live in EC and don't have a bike or car. Where are the traffic going to go? Maybury road is back to back traffic all day long A: we have done strategic modelling which shows that traffic on key junctions wouldn't have significant impacts Traffic is only going to get worse

@justacwab Q: If it isnt broke don't fix it. How is making Mahbury chocka block going to improve it. Q: When I looked at the plans I thought it would be horrendous. But I live in CAN and it is a ratrun. The speed is horrendous. We need something. I am frightened with what I see.

@justacwab Q: Do you believe in democracy. Lm: of course I do. Q: so if you you love LTNs why not start in Gilmerton.

@justacwab LM: we have to move quickly and we are looking at Leith but the tram. This city is going to grow by 15% in next 20 years. We have to have sustainable transport for the health benefits. I would want one in every ward.

@justacwab Q: what are the plans if the walker/cyclist when the want to leave the enclave. How will they cross the busy main roads? Traffic has come back to DrumBrae since lockdown ended. LM: All access points will be available for walking & cycling. We expect to see traffic evaporation

@justacwab A: The West Edinburgh Link will build a bridge to the Gyle. Q: how will all the new development access Maybruy road. A: access wi be through East Craig's for active travel. New junction and improved links.

@justacwab Q: We already have Bike Buses. Never hand problems getting the East Craig's PS as we have a designated path. Q: Is it temporary or permanent. Q: How many fatalities in this area I last 20 years?

@justacwab A: 2 accidents in last 3 years. Q: (from child). I live in Turnhouse Rd, Why are you building the houses. Q: I've lived here 40years. I have never felt uncomfortable cycling apart from the road condition. How will air quality improve when one road to major HS where loads drive

@justacwab Q: Frkm DrumbraeCC. We weren't told. Do you believe this is right I asked for stats and didn't get them. It is based on false premise A: The CC should have been consulted and will go back and check. We have previously given links to WEL Weve had affected feedback elsewhere

@justacwab Q: identified as disable. What would you do if these proposals are against disability discrimination. Difficulty getting to doctors. Now talking about Corstorphine SJR changes & concern for his guide dog. You are jnfrjngjng on my right. (Bug cheer)

@justacwab Lm: The last thing I want to do is infringe skmeone rights. We have been through the access panel. The purpose is for wider pavements is to reduce the likelihood of impacts on people, especially disability. We do consult. ABoard ban was a success.

@justacwab Q: in my street there are 5 people who can't walk and have th drive. You have to go in the rush hour- your increasing the pollution while the kids are going by car. You have to go weird routes.

@justacwab Q: I live in Maybury Dri. Have you modelledwhere the Maybury rd traffic is coming from. Outside commuters Lm: we have lots of car commuters due to our employment. Q: Right turns onto Glasgow road. Come over now and try it. Q: Standing orders can be overturned on erroneous info

@justacwab LM: we make decisions based on the information we have. It is being done the proper way. Q: what is this really about? Have been here this evening do you have any intention to modify before implementing?. Yes/no answer. Lm: my intention is tj take the views heard and respond

@justacwab I give you my word I have been listening. I will talk with my officers. We will look at the what we can do to to adapt. Q: what about emergency services LM: we consulted..no concerns raised.

@justacwab Q: Woukd you consider traffic lights at Drumbrae. Lm: I will take that back to officers. Q: reversing lorries doesn't seem safe.

@justacwab Q: I about to move to EC. What about the pollution. My wife works in Livi, I'm horrified my life wilm be a nightmare. Do you recognise that. A. I wont dismiss specific concerns. We are looking at this across a strategic area. It may feel like a village but we have to look.wider.

@justacwab Q: I'm a Community Councillor & never heard of a LTN. Why haven't I heard of it before. LM: The concept came forward on 14th May report. Opportunity for better quality πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈπŸš΄β€β™‚οΈ The term is new and principals have been around. Those were in WEL. It's a shorthand for modal.filters

@justacwab Q: Why is WEL only going half way up Maybury drive to Bughtljn Market. The Craigmount HS kids don't socially distance coming & going to school. Why didn't you tell us about WEL during lockdown.

@justacwab A: We looked at extending to Barnton but didn't have resource but it is being considered in another project as is the whole of Maybury Road. We were also asked to look at routes in other directions which is where the LtN came.

@justacwab Q: We are not against SFP we have lots of space. I walk every day on Craigs road. I cycle. Maybury Road, Glasgow Road & DrumBrae are the nightmares. Sort them out and leave us alone.

@justacwab Q: what about community engagement. LM: We have 900 miles of roads. We put in Β£1.2m on the bridges. Our independent index of roads is the best in Scotland. The problem is traffic, heavy traffic. Lots of cars in this area Everyone who switches to cycle helps our roads (+ health)

@justacwab (Shouts of did you cycle). We had a process agreed by your representatives How many times have I said I'm listening ACH: Can I thank Lesley Hinds for coming πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ We had over 1000 people here in the middle of the pandemic wanting their voice hear I have read the WHO guidance

@justacwab It doesn't say you need a bus gate to fight Covid. When people here, councillors and MsP tell you this is unwanted you need to listen. Thank you & goodnight.
