The #COVID19 vaccine is on its way, but the next weeks & months are critical for saving lives. It’s beyond time to act.

@wutrain 1/n Dear Ms. Wu, I know people who supported your candidacy who are bright and thoughtful, so I presume you are, too. But are you really so totally unaware of the real COVID situation in our state? We have not been above excess deaths since June.

cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr…

@wutrain 2/n On the other hand, our COVID policies—which you support— are wreaking havoc on the city, most especially the poor and middle class. Worse, they are there to stop the spread of a disease that has already largely burned through our state—as the CDC data shows.

@wutrain 3/n In this data from May (which, the CDC data above shows is when our epidemic ended), there is a direct, inverse relationship between % of people in a zip code infected and education level—8x worse in the hardest hit, least educated zip codes.

thepragmatist.co/post/lockdowns…

@wutrain 4/n You say you care about justice, yet you support policies to “stop the spread” that are nothing more than “protect the rich, infect the poor.” As a bright, well-educated woman, I presume you are capable of looking at data. Yet you choose not to. Why?

thepragmatist.co/post/lockdowns…

@wutrain If you care so much about justice, why are you not screaming “open the schools” from the rooftops? When we look empirically, there is no correlation between in-person schools and case growth. Yet you say nothing.

@wutrain 6/n Please do not tell me that we can’t relax, because the only reason our deaths are not above average, is due to our incredible efforts to stop the spread. When comparing cases in MA (always more restrictions) & FL (removed all restrictions on 9/15), FL is actually better.

@wutrain 7/n When looking at deaths, the same is true. And, of course, overall, Florida has fewer deaths per capita. Perhaps this is because they didn’t rely on the poor and the sick to build their population immunity as we have here?

@wutrain 8/n Nor is there any real concern about hospitals as I imagine you know. Though like every “justice-seeking” politician you exploit the opacity of this data in order to push policies that keep schools virtual, thereby hardening the already ossified social inequalities in our city

@wutrain 9/n If perhaps you would like to counter that that general data somehow masks the true nature of the emergency in certain hospitals in the city, I will oblige you by providing the capacity for every Boston hospital since summer. They are in the tweets at the end of this "letter".

@wutrain I understand the general fear of the population. There are ways to reduce that fear. The CDC—one of the chief fear-mongers—has posted age-based Cv19 fatality rates Under 18 is ~0.003% (10x <flu), 19-50 is ~ .02% (roughly = flu) 63% of our population

cdc.gov/coronavirus/20…

@wutrain 11/n I am sending you this not to troll you, but because I do believe you are smart, that you do care. Perhaps you are simply unaware, or ignoring the data is expedient, or you believe it is too hard a job to tell people the truth. Perhaps you, too, have been failed by the media

@wutrain 12/n But if you WERE to tell the truth. If you WERE to make a data- and science-based argument about OPENING the city, returning children to school, you could truly be a hero. You WOULD be mayor (you may be anyway, but you could be a mayor whose impact goes far beyond BOS)

@wutrain 13/n Since April, Massachusetts has become not a hub for science, but a factory to cover up the deadly mis-steps of politicians, and the scientists and doctors who advised them. These mis-steps resulted in the disease being driven to the most vulnerable.

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/P…

@wutrain 14/n Politicians are not following the science, they are using it as a shield to protect themselves. This is destroying the credibility of scientists & doctors. Those who are providing such cover are indistinguishable from the most craven politicians.

washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/…

@wutrain 15/n If you were to consider taking this road, there are intellectually honest scientists and doctors in this state who are deeply troubled by our course. Dr.@MartinKulldorff one of the chief signatories of the @gbdeclaration is just across the river. Sincerely, Emily Burns
