*Thread* This week, a 28-year-old man was convicted of offences after he caused so much distress to his partner that she fell through a first-floor window trying to escape him. Read that again. This woman willingly jumped out of a window rather than having to face this guy.

Can you imagine the level of fear it takes for someone to throw themselves out of a first-floor window? But this is exactly what domestic abusers do to their victims – induce pure terror. It all started as a normal night out...

It was February 2019, & the pair were on their way to a local bar. But the man took issue with what the woman was wearing, making her feel so uncomfortable that the evening was cut short. It was when they returned home that he truly lost his temper. And wouldn't let her leave.

He threw her shoes across the room, pushed & hit her. She made her way to the bathroom and locked the door. He became angry once again & tried to break in. This put the woman in such fear of him that she climbed out of the first-floor window, falling onto the floor below.

As a result of the fall and the attack on her, the woman suffered a fractured vertebrae, a cut to the back of her head, bruising to her eye & a swollen lip. The person who did this is Curtis Thomas Peachment, 28, of Bowen Square, Daventry. He will be sentenced on June 14, 2021.

This was a great investigation by DC Andrea Taylor who paid tribute to this woman outside court - “She has shown immense bravery & I am so proud of her for supporting our case throughout – she has waited a long time for this to get to court."

We cannot overstate the courage it takes for someone who has experienced abuse like this not only to come forward and tell the police, but to support a prosecution. This woman has been amazing. You can read more about the case here:
