A biryani delivery startup grew revenue from ₹ 86 lakhs to ₹ 150 crores and is estimated to generate ₹ 500 crores by FY 22-23 – Biryani By Kilo. A [thread] 🧵:

[1] Founded by Vishal Jindal and Kaushik Roy, in 2015. It started with 2 outlets, and now it has over 40 outlets. They stressed over quality. And who doesn’t love Biryani? They saw an opportunity and created one of the best outlets and places for Biryani.

[2] Unlike most restaurants, they discarded the bulk-produce method. Each biryani order is ‘dum-cook’ as per the customer’s requirements. The biryani is delivered in the handi to make it look and taste more authentic.

[3] To enhance the experience, the company also sends earthern angeethis with the orders, which helps to preserve the smokey flavor of the biryani. It also retains the aroma of the spices in the rice

[4] When everything was working quite well. They added Nizami dishes like kebabs, phirni, and kormas to their menu to serve more people. It expanded their reach and hence, more customers. Customers loved their variety of foods and different ranges.

[5] Ingredients are the key to the flavour of biryani. They use Rs. 200/kg Dawat Basmati Rice aged for more than 2 years. The spices are specially selected from Kerela. They also make sure to maintain the quality, hygiene and standardization of the products.

[6] The business grew faster than they anticipated. It now has over 40 outlets across 20 different cities in India. The food is served with the same dedication and style across every city and outlet.

[7] The revenue of the business is increasing at an exponential rate, 70% to 80% every year. The company is expected to generate more than double revenue for FY 22-23, i.e. around ₹ 500 crores.

[8] In the coming years, the company aims to have a sales run rate of more than ₹ 40 crores. They are also planning to export the Handi biryani to the UK and UAE.

[9] You can expect more than 40-50 new outlets in Northern India in the coming years. With some new food options, such as brown rice biryani and quinoa biryani.
