So, first things first, overall QPR have been brilliant so far this season. We’ve been consistently punching above our weight, both in terms of in-play metrics such as xG, but also based on wage bill, squad value etc… #MILQPR
Obvs doesn’t feel like that walking out of Millwall tonight, or if you were unfortunate enough to be at Barnsley on Saturday. The reality is that QPR massively punched in January. The wins against Coventry and WBA are the inverse of these last two matches… #QPR #MILQPR
Nothing in the underlying numbers suggests that QPR are amongst the best teams in the division. Sorry, they don’t. Consistently we’ve succeeded due to having a decent defence (and GK), alongside great individual performances from Willock, Chair or Adomah… #QPR #MILQPR
If we’re all being honest we’ve also burgled results against Bristol C, Cov, WBA and Boro away. Of course we’ve also dropped points unluckily here and there (Forest and BC at home), but overall we’ve ridden our luck to this point. That’s now working itself out… #QPR #MILQPR
Almost every QPR forward has over-performed to this point, based on xG. There’s only so long that this can be sustained. You’re then relying on the defence being impeccable, which it can never be. Both GKs have been excellent, as have the CBs… #QPR #MILQPR
Save for Wallace, we’re dreadful at full back. We’ve got lucky with Albert (who has been tremendous so far this season), the rest have been well below par. Incredibly this wasn’t addressed in January… #QPR #MILQPR
The sad truth is that we’re unable, financially, to compete with our peers at the top of the table. Even @Rovers went and got Ryan Giles in on loan. Maybe this will all work itself out. I still believe we’re a playoff team this year, but any more performances like the last… #QPR
…couple and we’ll soon find ourselves out of the hunt. My big fear is that we’ve set ourselves a high bar. The baseline has gone from ‘just stay up’ to ‘playoffs minimum’. We all know this is a ludicrous perception, but the team have dared us to dream… #QPR #MILQPR
Last thought. We have one of the smallest squads in the @SkyBetChamp. We’re asking a hell of a lot from this team, much more than our peers are asking of their players. Everyone’s doing their best even if they’re not at it 100% every game. Worth remembering that #QPR #MILQPR
