Fascinating read. Excess mortality the Netherlands was pretty high. Had much to do with a slow response especially in subsequent waves. A general slow response and poor uptake in basic prevention measures was and is a significant contributor to stress in health care.

Hospitals are the end station, so are severe measures, everything starts with prevention. Act early; you can prevent rapid escalation and overburdening an already fragile health care system. Nothing new, still a piss poor applied principle after so many waves.

In Oct 2021 it took 33 days to start advising on implementation of 'basic measures' not putting them in place, nope, just an advice. Currently there is nothing in place and in future waves of more significance we will ignore this again. @ArmandGirbes important to underline this

Important to seperate causes and consequences, also for the public narrative we carry responsibility for.
