1. How Malik Kafur Destroyed Hindu Temples and Hindu Society Malik Kafur was a young Hindu boy from Gujarat, who was captured and converted to Islam in an Islamic raid on Gujarat in 1298 by the generals of Alauddin Khilji. This neo-convert destroyed thousands of Hindu temples.


2. The exploits of Kafur are recorded by none other than Amir Khusrau. Alauddin Khilji was infatuated by Kafur because he was very handsome & this led to quick ascension of Kafur in the Khilji court. He became the topmost officer of the empire and was given the title Malik Naib.


3. IN 1310-1311 CE Kafur led one of the most devastating Islamic invasions of the south. Countless millions of Hindu temples were destroyed, Hindu women, children and innocents massacred. Devagiri, the capital of the Yadavas was once again destroyed.


4. In 1309-10 CE Kafur destroyed Warangal, the great capital of the Kakatiyas. Warangal was so completely destroyed not much survived of its great and huge temples except the temple toranas which serve as the symbol of Telangana now.


5. The immensely rich and beautiful capital city of the Hoysalas, Dvarasamudra (contemporary Halibedu) was destroyed even after the surrender of the king. The famous Hoysalesvara temple, arguably the crowning jewel of Hindu temple sculpture was thoroughly destroyed.


6. Pandyan king of Madurai decided to fight with hit and run policy but his kingdom was devastated in the process. He massacred the devotees and citizens at the great temple at Chidambaram and desecrated it. Similarly the temple at Srirangam was also desecrated.


7. At Madurai he set fire to many temples. His raids reached even Kannur in Kerala. He carried prisoners with him so that they could be sold in Central Asian slave markets. It is one of the most devastating memories in Hindu psyche. ===
